गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।

साक्षात परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥

 

English Transliteration

 

GururBrahmaa GururVisnu Gururdevo Maheshvarah |

Guru sakshat parahma Brahma tasmai Shri Gurave Namah ||1||

 

Words Meaning

The Guru (dispellar of darkness) is Brahma (the creator); the Guru is Vishnu (the sustainer); the Gurudeva is Maheswara (the destroyer); the Guru is Verily the Para-Brahman (ultimate consciousness); Salutations to that Guru.

English full meaning 

Salutation to the one who himself is the creator, the sustainer, the destroyer and ultimate consciousness.

 

अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् ।

तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥

 

Akhandamannddalaakaaram Vyaaptam Yena Charaacharam |

Tatpadam Darshitam Yena Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah ||

 

Akhandamandalaakaram-Salutations to the Guru Whose Form is the whole Indivisible physical manifestation (Universe), Vyaaptam Yena Charaacharam-who pervades both in movable and immovable things, TatPadam Darshitam Yena-manifested his feet

 

Salutations to the Guru Whose Form is the whole Indivisible physical manifestation

(Universe), and who pervades both in movable and immovable things, Revealed (out of Grace) That Feet (of Indivisible Presence); Salutations to that Guru.

 

 

अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशालाकया ।

चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥

 

Ajnyaana timiraandhasya Jnyaananajana Shalaakaya |

Chakshurunmeelitam Yena Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah |

 

Ajnyaana timiraandhasya-darkness of ignorance from our blindness, Jnyaananajana Shalaakaya- by his eye of isdom (spiritual eye),Chakshurunmeelitam yena- our (spiritual) Eyes are Opened, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah-Salutations to that Guru.

 

Salutations to the Guru who opened our spiritual eyes by his eyes of wisdom (spiritual eye) which were closed from our darkness of ignorance.

 

ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिम्

द्वन्द्वातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्त्वमस्यादिलक्ष्यम् ।

एकं नित्यं विमलमचलं सर्वधीसाक्षीभूतम्

भावातीतं त्रिगुणरहितं सद्गुरुंतं नमामि ॥१४॥

 

Brahmaanandam Paramasukhadam Kevalam Jnyaanamurtim

Dvandvaateetam Gaganasadrusham tattvamssyadi Lakssyam |

Ekam nityam vimalamachalam sarvadhisaaksi bhootam

Bhaavaateetam trigunarahitam sadGurum tannamaami ||

 

Brahmaanandam-Bliss of Brahman; Paramasukhadam-bestower of ultimate bliss; Kevalam-Who is the Absolute; Jnyaanamurtim-Embodiment of wisdom; dvandvaateetam-Who is Beyond Duality; Gaganasadrusham-who is infinite Like the Sky; tattvamssyadi Lakssyam-Who is indicated by Maha Vakyas viz., Tat-Tvam-Asi, Aham Brahmasmi etc.; ekam-alone; nityam-eternal;vimalam-immaculate, stainless; achalam-immovable; sarvadhisaaksi bhootam-Who is the Witness of the intellegence of All Beings; bhaavaateetam-beyond mind's modification (clutches of emotions);trigunarahitam-who is free from trigunas viz., sattva, rajas and tamas salutations to that sad Guru.

 

salutations to that sad Guru who is the bliss of Brahman,bestower of ultimate bliss,Who is the Absolute,Embodiment of wisdom,Who is Beyond Duality,who is infinite Like the Sky,Who is indicated by Maha Vakyas viz., Tat-Tvam-Asi, Aham Brahmasmi etc., who is alone,eternal,immaculate,immovable,Who is the Witness of the intellegence of All Beings, beyond mind's modification (clutches of emotions),who is free from trigunas viz., sattva, rajas and tamas.

 

 

न गुरोरधिकं तत्त्वं न गुरोरधिकं तपः ।

तत्त्वज्ञानात् परं नास्ति तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥

Na Guroradhikam tattvam Na Guroradhikam tapah |

tattvaJnyaanaat Param naasti tasmai Shri Gurave namah ||

 

Na Guroradhikam tattvam-no notion is greater than Guru; Na Guroradhikam tapah-no austerity is greater than Guru; tattvaJnyaanaat Param naasti-there is nothing beyond self knowledge which teaches Guru; Shri Gurave namah-Salutations to that Guru.

Salutations to the Guru, Neither is there any notion Beyond the Guru, Nor is there any Austerity Higher than the Guru,there is nothing beyond self knowledge which teaches Guru.
